Story

Sinners N the Living RoomSista Linda Foots, First Lady of New Life Community Outreach Church on the Hill of God and Christ, longs to live the life of a distinguished first family, but for now, she’ll just settle for the perfect day. After a Gospel concert, the Motherboard members of the church arrive at Linda’s brand-new home to coordinate “Pastor Appreciation Sunday”. All hell breaks loose when the newly rich Cleo arrives to interrupt the occasion. These saints come marching in Linda’s seemingly perfect world, causing her to reexamine her life, the church, and her own divided household. Will Linda or the church ever be the same, once these sinners enter her living room? With a cast of characters full of wit and insight and spiritually moving music, Sinners N The LivingRoom showcases what goes once the “saints” leave the sanctuary. The musical play is an enthralling tale that examines the lives of church folk, while revealing their secrets, exploring redemption, and advocating acceptance. Don’t be surprised if you see someone you know in this production. It may even be you.

About the Writer

Kirk A. Moore was born November 2, 1979 in Houston, Texas. He has been performing and writing (church plays, theatre, speech & debate) for over 20 years. In his teens, Mr. Moore wrote and co-directed two productions The Thrill is Gone and Semple Tragedy, the former dealing with the Watts Riots and the latter dramatized black on black bigotry during the Harlem Renaissance. Both plays garnered him national recognition and he was a two-time finalist at the Kennedy Center’s National History Competition. Although he loved acting, he longed to become a successful playwright and screenwriter. In August of 1998, Moore began attending Morehouse College in Atlanta, Ga., where he majored in English. He studied the works of Shakespeare, August Wilson, George C. Wolfe, and many other notable playwrights. While attending Morehouse, Moore also became President of the Speech & Debate Association, leading the team to Top 20 National recognition for the first time in over 20 years. He was also a national finalist for Prose Interpretation, for a piece he wrote in entitled, Good Morning, Jerry.

After graduating Morehouse, Moore’s first full-length play, The Faces That Colored Me, was produced by the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Ga., where it was directed by the famed Carol Mitchell-Leon. While in Atlanta, he continued to write, but longed to gain more knowledge and experience, so he packed his bags and moved to Los Angeles, Ca. to pursue his dream. He is currently in the Master Program at California State University, Los Angeles, studying Theatre Arts, with in emphasis on playwriting. While attending the university Moore has written several short plays and directed the play, Before It Hits Home.

Today at the 27 years old, Kirk A. Moore is ready for the big time, writing and directing the Gospel Musical, Sinner N The LivingRoom. Produced by Makin’ It Happen Productions, Sinners dramatizes and satirizes the joys and struggles of being a “good, God-fearing” Christian, especially when challenged by gossip, secrets, and lies within the church.
